As we wrap up the month of love, I think it's fitting we pause for a moment and talk about self-love.
Consider, is there a person(s) in your life that when they shower you with praise and approval you feel amazing, but when that praise or approval isn't there, you feel lousy? I've certainly experienced this.
As humans we desire love and approval. We want to feel good. And yet, ironically, we seek love and approval from sources that do not have the capacity to provide what we desire. People disappoint us. Promotions fall through. Things don't go as we planned they would.
I''m inspired by the work of Byron Katie. In her powerful quote, "It's not your job to like me....it's MINE!" Byron reminds us that as much as we want other people to like us, to approve of us, and ultimately to love us, it really isn't their job and never has been. It's always an inside job. It starts and ends with us loving and liking ourselves.
My invitation to you is to carry the month of love into March and practice lots of self-love and approval. A simple, but powerful way to start is to repeat to yourself many times a day, "I love and approve of myself." Or, "I am lovable." It may not feel true at first, but stick with it and see what starts to shift over time.
Here's to love!
